Jeera aloo, is a flavourful North Indian side dishes made with potatoes and spices. The word 'Jeera' in Sanskrit translates to 'that which digests' which is why it pairs so well with potatoes. Potatoes usually cause gas and bloating for me personally, so adding cumin seeds and hing make it a lot easier for my body to digest. Plus the combination of all the ground spices makes this dish a flavourfilled, every bite!
Spices for Jeera Aloo:
Optional: 1/8 tsp asafoetida (hing)
Boil potatoes until tender yet firm (we don't want these two mushy)
Heat oil in pan and add cumin seeds
Once they begin to splutter and release aroma, add diced ginger and green chilli. Sure for 30 seconds
Add turmeric, red chili powder, coriander powder and hing (optional)
Add the boiled potatoes and salt, combine well
Top with fenugreek leaves
